The Cape Peninsula forms part of the magnificent "Cape Floral Kingdom", one of six floral kingdoms as recognized by UNESCO. Not only is the Cape Floral Kingdom the smallest in the world, it is also the most bio-diverse, with approximately 9500 species of indigenous and endemic plant species. Locally, the biome is known as "Fynbos" (which means "Finebush") This photo is of a Protea species called the Pin cushion. Stunning view of Hout Bay and the "Sentinel", taken from above Chapmans Peak drive, a scenic seaside road built nearly 100 years ago. The road was named after John Chapman, a ship's pilot, who originally named the bay "Chapmans Chaunce" in the 18th century. Lots of incredible history wherever the road takes us!

Africa's unique and beloved African Penguin (originally known as the Jackass penguin, because of the donkey-like noise they make). Your tour will include a visit to this pristine and protected marine area, where you will get an opportunity to view these feathered friends in their natural habitat and surroundings close up. They remain under severe threat as a result of various factors, but thankfully, their numbers have started to stabilize, thanks to the intervention of our SA National Parks board.

The incredible view of the "Cape of Good Hope" (originally named "Cape of Storms" by Bartholomew Dias, the first person to have rounded the Cape) as seen from the Cape Point Lighthouse. There are several relatively easy hikes within the reserve, varying in length from 1 to 5 hours, so if hiking is your thing, we could easily arrange your personal travel plan to include this. This pristine reserve lies within the "Cape Floral Kingdom", a unique and delicate floral system as recognized by UNESCO.

A close up of the iconic lighthouse, built in 1859. Although no longer a working lighthouse, a trip to the top is still highly recommended. A new lighthouse was commissioned early in the 20th century, which is situated much lower down the edge of the Peninsula. The "old" lighthouse is accessible either by a short funicular ride or a short hike. Be warned, it can get pretty windy up there!

One of the beautiful summer flowering species within the Cape Floral Kingdom that can be seen in the reserve is the "Everlasting", so-called for its longevity when picked as a dried flower. For those budding botanists out there, its Latin name is "Syncarpha vestita".
