Trust me as an experienced and local expert to take you for two unforgettable destinations in Normandy where we will explore the cultural heritage with an introduction of the Viking folk through the medieval period with Mont-Saint-Michel island and William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy and King of England to the Landing beaches, everything combined with the discovery of some historical and stunning places out off the beaten tracks, the sharing of some storytellings, legends, anecdotes and norman "art de vivre" with our artisanal traditions, our gastronomy and our know-how. Then there is D-Day and the Battle of Normandy and all that history entails. Marked by engraved headstones, battle-scarred landscapes and the memories of the fast-disappearing 'Greatest Generation', we will pay tribute to those young men that gave their lives for our freedom. We need to ensure that their story is passed on from present to future generations. Normandy is the place to be !
Day 1 : The D-Day landing beaches. I will customize a tour according to the Landing sectors that you wish to cover : Omaha, Utha, Pointe du Hoc, Gold, Sword or Juno sector. The classical Normandy Landing Beach tour is : Omaha Beach, the US cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, Ste-Mère-Eglise, Utah Beach. We will cover different topics : preparation of Overlord operation, the assault of the first Allied waves, the construction of the artificial ports, the set up of the decoy plan Fortitude by Patton, the daily life under the German occupation and the relationships between the liberators and the French civilians, the involvement of the French resistance, the construction of the Atlantic wall, the German positions, the war effort, the role of the women, the war correspondants, minorities like code talkers, postal and balloon barage battalions … Day 2 : Mont-Saint-Michael island That paved and fortified village on an island with his 10th century monastery and its timbered houses will immerse you in the Middle ages.
