We start the tour in front of the White House and West Wing. From there, we proceed to the National Mall for a tour of the famous monuments. On the way, we stop at the wonderful memorial to Albert Einstein - a favorite with young people - before continuing on to the Mall's most famous monuments: the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (The Wall), the Korean War Memorial, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and finally the beautiful World War II Memorial. We end our tour at the base of the Washington Monument - a great place for picture taking. Note: This tour is perfect for younger visitors! Total mileage: about 2-1/2 miles. Terrain: easy. Total time: about 3hours. Souvenirs can be purchased at the Lincoln, FDR and MLK memorials. Snacks are available at a small kiosk by the Lincoln Memorial.
We meet at St. John's Episcopal Church. We can stop in for a quick visit if we are there between 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday thru Friday. Then we cross the street to historic Lafayette Square and see the Dolly Madison House and the famous Decatur House. We stop at statues of Revolutionary War heroes and the famous Andrew Jackson on horseback statue. We exit the park on Pennsylvania Avenue for views of the exteriors of the White House and West Wing. Our next stop is the statue of Albert Einstein - popular with young people for photo-ops. Then we cross Constitution Avenue to visit most famous memorials on the National Mall, starting with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (The Wall). From there we visit the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial and the World War II Memorial. We wind up the tour at the base of the Washington Monument.
